“The Wolf”
From ancient times, many have both feared and been fascinated by the majestic Wolf, and few animals capture people’s imagination quite like the Wolf. Maybe it’s because there’s a part of us that identifies with that wild, untamed spirit. Wolves figure prominently in the mythology of nearly every American Indian tribe as a soul they have great respect for – signifying power, courage, strength, loyalty, kinship & are considered one of the six directional guardians & spirit guides of life. They would never kill a wolf, believing their soul is a brother & true best friend. Wolves are generally not aggressive and are ancestors of the domestic dog. Not only are they very loyal creatures, they also mate for life. Today many species of wolves are considered to be endangered – as they were hunted to the point of extinction. Indigenous peoples watched in sadness as the Europeans came & killed the wolves – knowing it was a sin to kill one’s brother. Wolves are slowly returning to their lands, but their biggest threat & hardship still lies ahead of them – as their forests & timbers continue to disappear. Today, we are beginning to understand how precious our environment is, & the magnificent gray wolf remains a symbol of the wilderness habitats we strive to conserve. The popularity & symbol of the gray wolf is an unspoken pledge made by millions, that says we will no longer take our precious natural heritage for granted, but will care for it, protect it, & conserve it for generations to come. Please be kind to these elusive, mystical creatures –
